Explore Clearwater Beach on a Luxury Cart

Clearwater Beach is our home turf β€” we keep our carts on Coronado Drive, a few hundred feet from the sand β€” and it is the one town on this coast where a cart genuinely beats a car. The island is a little over two miles of barrier beach with a single spine road, a handful of public garages, and metered parking that fills by mid-morning in season. A cart sidesteps almost all of it.

The practical case is parking. Between the Beach Walk garages, the Pier 60 lot and the metered spaces along Gulfview, a car in February means circling. Cart-sized spaces exist where car spaces do not, and you are never more than a couple of minutes from a public beach access on foot. Guests routinely tell us they parked the rental car at the hotel on day one and did not touch it again.

The other half is that the island is genuinely fun to drive. Mandalay Avenue at dusk, the Beach Walk promenade with the Gulf on your right, the causeway views heading toward Island Estates β€” six people, cognac leather seats, the Bluetooth up, and no windows between you and the salt air. It is the part of the trip people film.

Local tip: We're based right on Coronado Dr in the heart of Clearwater Beach, so delivery is fast and free anywhere on the island and out to Sand Key.

Where you can legally drive on Clearwater Beach

Our carts are registered, insured, street-legal low-speed vehicles β€” they carry a VIN and a tag, not just a windshield β€” which means they are road-legal on any street posted 35 mph or under. On Clearwater Beach that covers effectively the whole island: Coronado, Hamden, Mandalay, Bay Esplanade, the residential grid, the Beach Walk stretch of South Gulfview and the run over the bridge to Sand Key.

Two limits are worth knowing before you set off. Carts are never permitted on the sand itself β€” no beach in Pinellas County allows it β€” so you park at a public access and walk the last thirty feet. And the causeway back to the mainland is posted well above 35 mph, so the cart stays on the island side. If your plan involves the mainland, that is a car trip.

A day on the island by cart

The pattern most of our guests fall into: coffee and a slow loop up Mandalay before the traffic wakes up, cart parked at a north-end access for the morning swim, back to the condo to drop wet towels and reload the cooler, then out again around four.

Late afternoon is the payoff. Drive the Beach Walk south with the sun getting low, park near Pier 60 for the Sunsets festival, then take the long way home along the residential streets while the sky is still going orange. On a cart with the speakers on, that last twenty minutes is the part people remember.

Delivery on Clearwater Beach

We are based on Coronado Drive, so island delivery is quick and it is free. We meet you at your hotel's valet lane, your condo's driveway or your rental's kerb, walk you through the controls and the charging cord, and collect it from the same spot at the end.

That includes the big Gulfview hotels, the Mandalay and Bay Esplanade condo buildings, the Island Estates houses and out to the Sand Key towers. If your building has a specific loading zone or a height-restricted garage, tell us when you book and we will plan the handover around it.

Clearwater Beach Golf Cart FAQs

Where can I rent a golf cart on Clearwater Beach?οΌ‹

We're based at 333 Coronado Dr, in the middle of the beach, and we deliver free anywhere on the island β€” Gulfview, Mandalay, Bay Esplanade, Island Estates and out to Sand Key. Most guests never come to us; we bring the cart to your hotel or condo and pick it up when you're done.

Can I drive a golf cart to Pier 60 and along the Beach Walk?οΌ‹

Yes. Pier 60, the Beach Walk promenade along South Gulfview and the whole Mandalay strip are all posted 35 mph or under, so a street-legal cart belongs there. Park at an access point and walk onto the pier itself.

Is a golf cart better than parking a car on Clearwater Beach?οΌ‹

In season, comfortably yes. Car parking on the island means garages and meters that fill by late morning, while cart-sized spaces stay open much longer and cost less. Plenty of our guests leave the rental car at the hotel for their whole stay.

Can I take the cart over the bridge to Sand Key?οΌ‹

Yes β€” the Sand Key bridge and Sand Key itself are within the 35 mph limit, so it's an easy and very scenic ten-minute run down to Sand Key Park. What you can't do is take the cart across the Memorial Causeway to mainland Clearwater; that road is posted too fast for a low-speed vehicle.

Can I drive the golf cart on the beach at Clearwater?οΌ‹

No. Motor vehicles of any kind are not allowed on the sand anywhere in Pinellas County. The good news is there's cart parking right beside nearly every public beach access, so it's a very short walk.

Can I drive to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium?οΌ‹

Yes. The aquarium is on Island Estates, and the route out along Windward Passage stays under 35 mph the whole way. It's one of the nicest short drives on the island, with water on both sides.

How old do I need to be to rent a cart in Clearwater Beach?οΌ‹

Our renters must be 21 or older with a valid driver's licence and an active personal auto-insurance policy. Passengers can be any age as long as everyone has a proper seat β€” six seats, six people, seat belts for all of them.

Are your Clearwater Beach carts street legal?οΌ‹

Every cart is a registered and insured low-speed vehicle with a VIN, tag, seat belts, headlights, brake lights and turn signals. That's a different legal category from an unregistered golf cart, and it's what makes it road-legal across the island.

How many people fit, and is there room for beach gear?οΌ‹

Six adults in cognac leather captain's chairs, plus a built-in cooler. Chairs, umbrellas and a couple of boogie boards fit fine around six people β€” it's a big cart, not a four-seater with a bench.

Do you deliver to Clearwater Beach hotels and condos?οΌ‹

Yes, free, across the whole island. We regularly hand carts over at the Gulfview hotels, the Mandalay condo buildings, Island Estates homes and the Sand Key towers. Tell us the building and we'll sort out where to meet.

How long will the charge last for a day on the island?οΌ‹

Comfortably more than a full day of island driving β€” Clearwater Beach is only a couple of miles end to end, so you're covering short distances. Every rental includes a charger and extension cord so you can top it up overnight from a standard outlet.

Can I book a cart for the same day in Clearwater Beach?οΌ‹

Often, especially midweek. Weekends and holidays go first, and hourly rentals are by phone only β€” call 727-744-6999 and we'll tell you honestly what's still on the lot.
